Handling Agent Deductions Paid to Others
Did you know you have the ability to automatically create a payable to a vendor for items deducted from agent commissions such as charitable contributions, IRA or SEP retirement funds or even garnishments?

If you currently deduct such items from agent commissions, you may be doing too much work to complete the process.

Two options are available for automatically creating payables for this type of deduction from an agent’s commission:

  1. Linking the Agent Recurring Pay/Ded record directly to a vendor and having the closing automatically create the payable
  2. Using the Build AP from GL Option where the closing posts the agent deduction to a scheduled other payable account on your balance sheet – when you are ready to create the payables, you will select the Build AP from GL menu option

Deciding on the correct option depends upon the number of deductions occurring and the frequency with which you want to fund these deductions to the vendors. You may want to use a combination:

  • Link all Agent Recurring Pay/Ded records for garnishments directly to the appropriate payee – thus creating a payable to fund these garnishments each time the agent has a closing
  • Use the Build AP from GL option for charitable deductions that you want to fund monthly – this option creates a single payable item for each agent regardless of the number of closings. This option results in fewer “open items” for the vendor but will still provide agent totals to reflect on the check
