Avoid Date Errors as we move from 2008 into 2009
Do you find yourself accidentally dating January items in the wrong year or do your DPN users accidentally type in the wrong year? Did you know that the DPN Edit Date Parameters can help reduce or eliminate these errors? If you are not already using the Edit Date Parameters you may want to beginusing them as of January 2009. There are two ways to set your Edit Date Parameters.

If your accounting periods span the exact calendar month, go into SS ‐ System Setup from the Main Menu. Select Option 1 which is Company Parameters. Return through Beginning Company to display all. Use the F10 (Parms) option. The last field on this screen is Edit Date Limits. Set this field to C for calendar year. Edit dates will be validated to assure they represent a day within that calendar month.

If your accounting periods cuts off on a day within the month, for example January 2009 begins on December 27, 2008 and runs through January 26, 2009 then you will want to set your Edit Date Parameters specifically by accounting period. To do this go into SS – System Setup from the Main Menu. Select Option 3 which is Edit Date Parameters. You will be prompted for Beginning Company, Accounting Month, and Year. You can return through these fields leaving them blank to display anything you currently have set up from the beginning of the file. Check each company by scrolling through to the last Accounting Month and Year in the file. Use the F5 key to add new records to expand the Edit Date Parameters to encompass the New Year. Make this a part of your standard year end procedure.
